A free concert by Cuban singer songwriter Silvio Rodríguez marked the end of the inauguration of the People’s Summit, which saw thousands of people gather, on April 9, at the University of Panama.

The audience sang along to Latin American protest songs such as “El necio” and “La era está pariendo un corazón.”

Silvio was accompanied by a huge Cuban flag, the result of a project led by Cuban visual artist Alexis Leyva Machado (Kcho), also present in Panama.

Made in Cuba and transported to Panama, the work included the participation of Ernesto Rancaño, Sándor González, Javier Guerra, Juan Carlos Pérez Balseiro, Daniel Rodríguez and Max Delgado, among others.

The printed flag shows images of Latin American leaders, patriotic symbols, and the hand prints of dozens of Cuban children.
